Anita's Story

I started doing AR activism in late 2022 and met Tyler and his then girlfriend Annabelle Brady at my first fur protest.

 

Despite how others have warned me about their bad reputation, I became extremely involved and even started organizing for CAFT in 2023. The group I operated under was Los Angeles Animal Defense League (LAADL) and they gave me full control to run the accounts after seeing my social media managing skills. Tyler explicitly stated that he didn’t care for LAADL and was only using it to grow CAFT. I recognized how they have burned countless bridges throughout the years and decided to also amplify other AR issues, which is what LAADL was set out to do anyways. It was never just for fur if you look at their original brochure. This move was praised by fellow LA activists and grew the page exponentially, but they hated that. Essentially they deemed all things non-CAFT a waste of time and Annabelle has even said more than once that Billy at LA Zoo is "just one elephant.” She has also openly wished death upon several activists in our group chat. I was appalled by how they talked about others behind closed doors but kept my mouth shut to avoid more drama.

 

The tension between me and them continued to grow, and it finally reached the breaking point when Tyler claimed that the Sage Bistro protest I organized was "the biggest waste of time he's ever seen in his 20 years of activism." The statement didn’t age well as the protest made FOX News and eventually led to the restaurant’s shutdown, so jokes on him. He didn't just belittle me in private, he did so in our LA group chat for all to see. As a result, many longtime activists chimed in to defend me, which prompted Tyler and Annabelle to log me out of the old LAADL account, delete the 60 posts I made (animal sanctuary fundraisers included), and steal all the followers I obtained. Meanwhile, they started a nationwide smear campaign against me and tried to paint me as the crazy one, with the help of another infamous predator in CAFT, Greg McGonagle. Typical CAFT behavior if you ask me.

 

I thought the stress would end with us cutting ties, but they continued to create troll accounts to leave vicious comments on the new LAADL page I created and even spread disinformation about my partner. It's very obvious that it was them because those comments specifically mentioned my name and brought up a piece of private info that I only shared with them.

 

In 2023 alone, 6 CAFT LA organizers quit and 3 of them have completely disappeared from the movement. It saddens me to see amazing activists stop doing activism altogether because of a few bullies. I'm a firm believer that we can achieve animal liberation without working with chronic abusers who are constantly pushing people out of the movement. The damage they've done to our fellow activists should not be swept under the rug any longer. The enablers of CAFT are just as complicit. Giving them a platform is not only an insult to the victims of their abuse but also a bad look for the animal rights community.

 

The last time I heard from CAFT was in June 2025. One of their Germany- based organizers, Christoph W., someone who’s a problematic figure himself, accused me of “being unhinged and allowing the fur industry to do business,” simply because I was on tour with peta2 to do animal rights outreach for a few months. How could I protest in LA when I wasn’t physically here??? The biggest irony is that Christoph also serves as a “mentor” at Animal Activism Collective, one of CAFT’s enablers. More than a year later, they still wanted to shame me and make me feel worthless, even though I’m one of the most active individuals in LA. The endless harassment and false accusations should tell you everything you need to know about CAFT.

 

For the sake of your safety and sanity, avoid these people at all costs. I didn’t listen and had to learn my lesson the hard way. Please, don’t repeat my mistakes.
